DIVA DOES… The CHI Escape Cordless Curling Iron

The future of curling irons is here. And it’s cordless. Meet the CHI Escape Cordless Curling Iron.

It’s my new best friend – although we started off incredulous of one another. I doubted its ease, and it doubted my hair prowess. Both were fair and legitimate concerns.

On my end, as someone who is admittedly *not* the best with fancypants hair styling, I must say I did way better than I anticipated. And on its end, as something that is seemingly complicated, it was actually easy breezy.

The Chi Escape cordless curling iron costs $110 and can be charged simply by battery (both outlet and car varieties are included). Once it’s juiced up, you have about half an hour to an hour of use. There are 3 heat settings for fine, medium and coarse hair. The iron comes in a protective travel pouch with a pocket for the charger. It is small enough to fit in a day or gym bag and is pretty light to carry around. The barrel is 1″ which makes for beautiful tousled waves or more defined curls.

Not having a cord on the iron is clutch for on-the-go when an outlet isn’t available, and beyond that it just makes all those awkward and contorted (for me anyway) arm maneuvers much, muuuuuuch easier. I honestly never realized how much the cord itself made me dislike curling irons. With a cord, you are bound to whatever wall you plug into and it also gets in the way of what should be fluid curling motions.

In a nutshell, going cordless equals freedom.

But the CHI Escape Cordless Curling Iron is not a total score. It’s like a 99% score.

Because there is one con: it has a built-in clamp. No me gusta.

No worries, though. I had my husband hack it to remove the clamp so it functions as a curling wand. I don’t know if this is advisable by the brand (probably not) or if there are any safety issues in going clamp-less (I hope not) – but the piece came off easily enough and I’ve had no problems at all using it.

And just the fact that I’m using it regularly is MAJOR.

I’ve always been the girl who’d prefer to spend 5 minutes max on hair and all the time in the world on makeup.

But this thing has me twisting and wrapping and pulling and releasing… and loving it.

It’s kind of addicting.

I totally expected this to be a #FAIL – either the device itself or my ability to skillfully use it. But the CHI Escape Cordless Curling Iron is my new obsession. It rocks my world and gives me faith in many good hair days to come.

Removing the clamp is genius. I would have otherwise overlooked buying this for myself!
